The Barclays Global Fans Report results were announced earlier today, three days before Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to be announced the victor of the FIFA World Player Award.

Cristiano Ronaldo led all polling with 35 percent of fanīs votes after his tremendous 42 goal season which helped Manchester United take home the EPL and Champions League titles.

Former Portugal Manager, Luiz Felipe Scolari believes that Cristiano Ronaldo should win the FIFA award.

“Maybe this season there are others who might compete for the prize but not last season,” Scolari said Friday. “I hope that they give the award to Cristiano. He was the best in the world last season – far better than the rest and he deserves it.”

Runners up in fan voting were Lionel Messi with 17 percent, Steven Gerrard with 10 percent and Fernando Torres with 9 percent.

Spain had not won a major tournament since the 1964 Euro Championships which was held in Spain, but this year, they did not disappoint. Playing a German team which was over-hyped and inconsistent, Spain showed the world that they are in fact a tremendously talented team that deserved to be European Champions.

After the final whistle was blown, the Spanish Squad ran over to the large cheering section of Red and Gold who were chanting ESPANA and Ole, Ole Ole.

Spanish International and Liverpool forward, Fernando Torres, was quoted as saying that “If Real Madrid sign him, it would be a great signing. People talk about huge fees but that’s not for me to rate”. Torres was referring to the possible record breaking deal which may bring Ronaldo to Madrid.

Torres, who has seen first hand what Cristiano Ronaldo can do on the pitch, went on to say that any amount of money paid out for C. Ronaldo would most certainly be guaranteed to pay off.

Although transfer rumors continue to buzz, nothing has been confirmed by Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid or Manchester United.
