Rumors abound that Cristiano Ronaldo will be offered a new contract with Manchester United worth approximately £200,000 per week, making him the highest paid footballer in the EPL. We couldn’t be happier, but questions remain. What’s taken Manchester so long to honor their star player?
I’m sure there are those of you who will say that no one is worth that much money and that Cristiano Ronaldo should be happy with what he’s got. But that is really beside the point, in a perfect world, everyone is happy and no one is left behind, but in the real world, money and fame are very much a part of how things work. Cristiano Ronaldo is a star, correction, Cristiano Ronaldo is a superstar. His very name alone brings in millions of dollars in merchandising for Manchester United. Cristiano Ronaldo is the face of Manchester United, he’s the one that everyone turns to for goals and he’s the one the world sees as more than just a footballer, he’s an iconic figure who stands head and shoulders above his competition, and he is loved by both Manchester and non Manchester United fans the world over. Cristiano Ronaldo has also won every award that there is to win, he is already a legend in the making and he isn’t even in his prime yet.
With this new contract, Manchester United would be doing the right thing, honoring their star Cristiano Ronaldo. But we fear that Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t in it for the money, his sight seems fixed on Madrid, Real Madrid president Vicente Boluda, who recently replaced Ramon Calderon seems confident that Cristiano Ronaldo will soon be playing at Bernabeu.
If the rumors are true, and Cristiano Ronaldo is on his way to Madrid, then Manchester United’s new contract is either an upping of the stakes; in essence, an attempt to get as much money out of a Cristiano Ronaldo deal as possible, or a genuine attempt to keep Cristiano Ronaldo with the Red Devils. It all comes down to whether or not Manchester will come out publicly and insist that the new contract is in fact real and not imagined. Then it would be up to Cristiano Ronaldo to accept or decline the offer. We hope Cristiano stays with Manchester, it’s where he has honed his skills and where he’s become the person and athlete he is. That said, we don’t know the mind of Cristiano Ronaldo, and his wish to leave Manchester for Madrid is only speculative, we won’t know until he has publicly announced his wish to leave. Whichever path Cristiano ronaldo chooses, we will always support him.
