Cristiano Ronaldo And Manchester United Engage In A War Of Words
Cristiano Ronaldo’s comments to media on Thursday following Portugal’s quarter final match versus Germany sparked Manchester United FC to post a ‘Not For Sale’ bulletin on their website. The statement on their website, yesterday said: ‘Further to Friday’s press speculation about where Cristiano Ronaldo’s future lies, the club has moved to reiterate its stance on the matter: United are not listening to offers.’
The statement posted on the Manchester United Official website hasn’t stopped Ronaldo from reiterating a few words of his own on the subject.
He stated to the Times that playing for Spanish Giants Real Madrid has always been a dream of his and he simply could not pass up the opportunity, using Scolari’s move to Chelsea as an example.
‘For me it is a great opportunity and, as Scolari says, that train passes by only once and we have to take advantage of it.
‘That is why he took advantage of his change. Other people have to take advantage of opportunities, too.’
When Ronaldo was asked if Manchester United would be unhappy with him, he stated that
‘It is my opinion. That is why I don’t mind if people get upset.
‘It is my decision. It is what I want. I don’t know what I have to say to him. I have to say what I want and what I think.’
It seems that the inevitable will happen and Ronaldo will be a member of Real Madrid in the near future, unless Manchester United decide to use Ronaldo as an example and refuse the sale of the World’s greatest footballer to Madrid on the sole basis of spite. If that is their decision, It will undoubtedly rob the world of watching supreme skill on the pitch as well as rob Manchester United of acquiring great players from the transfer fee, or a possible package put forth by the Spanish Champions. Should The Red Devils decide to sit Ronaldo for the remainder of his four years, It will undoubtedly deter many future stars from considering Manchester United as a team to play for.
Ronaldo and Manchester United fans alike can only hope that the club does the right thing for both parties involved, and let a player who wants to leave, leave.

I agree,
He has made it pretty clear that he wants to go to Real Madrid. Why are the Red Devils so intent to carry this situation to stupid proportions? It doesn’t make any sense.
e tempo para o Manchester deixar-lo ir
wow
looks like it’s getting pretty heated. I hope the Reds do the right thing as well. Keeping Ronaldo and sitting him just to prove a point is foolish and being a Red Devils supporter, I would be quite angered by that action.
Ronaldo did a great job at Manchester, and no one can deny his contribution to the club, but every player reaches a point in their career when it’s time to move on.
I completely agree with Michelle. why the #%^k would United want to keep a player on the bench just to prove that they won’t be bullied. Fact is the dude wants to leave. I say cash in the chips and move on.
I think Man. Utd. needs 2 ask Ronny if he wants 2 stay. If he does want 2 leave, let him leave. If he wants 2 stay, he will stay. I am tired of all this. I want 2 no what team he will be on NOW. It looks like he is going 2 move on. It would be a disaster 2 Man Utd. 1st Beckham, now Ronny.
admin, what do you think about the situation?
hey i really like your website. i am a big ronaldo fan. i agree with miguel. what do you think should happen, admin?
Hey guys, thanks for all your comments. You have all made excellent points. Like Justin and Michelle said, why would Manchester want to bully their star player to make a point? I don’t believe that would happen, Manchester are after all a business, and money is always the bottom line. We think that it’s just a clever publicity stunt, possibly to up the price on their talented star. So beyond the publicity, like Ronaldo-is-the-man said , it doesn’t make any sense.
Jane thank you for your compliment and comment. And as usual, Tom you are always matter of fact on this. That’s why we appreciate your comments. (Tom is saying that it is time for Manchester to let Ronny go). And Viki, we too are tired of this…
We agree with Miguel, it would be a disaster for Man Utd. the team, but Manchester the business are heavily in debt to a tune of about 650 million pounds. Getting a huge payoff would definitely make the board very happy. Once again, it comes down to publicity: It appears to us that they are hyping up the situation by threatening a lawsuit, complaining to Fifa, threatening Ronaldo. All this to create a huge buzz with the hopes that other teams start bidding for Ronny’s services. Then when the time is right, they will sell Cristiano’s to the highest bidder. Then they will be able to pay off a portion of their heavy debt and come out smelling like roses, while Ronny and Real take the heat.
We think that once Cristiano plays his hand and publicly states that he wants to leave, Manchester will state that they will sell to the highest bidder
At the end of the day, it will be Man Utd fans who will be hurt the most. Cristiano is loved and we all know that he is by far the best. Losing him will leave a deep and unsettling impact on all of us.
Well certainly appreciate everyone’s comments. On the surface its logical that if a player has a dream of playing somewhere else it makes sense to move on. Now I’m a huge fan of Man Utd and Ronny for sure. What this brings into question for me is which is greater the Team or the Player? For instance there is no doubt that Eric Cantona played a pivotal role in raising Man Utd’s game and stature. But do all these players do this by themselves? Does anyone honestly believe that Ronny could have had the season he did without the quality of the team around him? Or for that matter the caliber of management of Sir Alex? Or the undying support, adoration and motivation of the fans?
Then add to this a contract. Ronny should never have signed the contract he did if he had no intention of fulfilling it. What does that speak of commitment? There’s no question in my mind that if he’s unhappy about money and conditions he could go back to United manager and argue more value. But to turn around a year later after committing for 4 years frankly is insulting. And to play the tactics of ambiguous statements is selfish and self-serving. I truly would hate to see Ronny go but I would hate more one player in any team having all the power to unsettle stability in a team, club and fans.
Ronny created this situation for himself not Man Utd. He signed a contract and made a commitment. He’s reneging on commitment. He’s been cocky and played the media, Sir Alex, the Club and worst of all the fans. Ronny is not recognizing what has been invested in him to get him to this point.
He may be an extremely talented player. He may be the best in the world right now in talent. But what he lacks is character and that matched with talent is what, for me, defines greatness. He’ll become a pawn of the money machine just like Beckham, etc. That to me would be truly sad. I’d rather him sit down say publicly “Man Utd I’m truly grateful for the opportunity I’ve had but I’m happy and I have a dream. I’d like to move on but I respect the commitment I’ve made. Is there something we can work out?”
Honestly right now I’d stick him the stands and let him think. And let that be a lesson to any one talented individual who thinks they can make pawns of clubs for their own selfish, inflated ego.
Again, I love to watch Ronaldo and I get a kick out of his cheekiness on the pitch. I completely understand a change of heart and desire to go fulfill a dream. But the way he’s handling this is ugly and smacks of selfish inexperience. He’s the world’s most talented player right now but he’s on not on a path greatness that would seal him in history.
Respect the opposite view and appreciate the chance to vent.
Like you all I’m tired of this.
Hi Neil,
Thank you so much for that eloquent comment. We feel that the points you’ve raised are valid and need to be addressed. We will be responding to yours and others comments in the next few days as a featured post. Thank you
Cristiano Ronaldo is both my favorite player, and my idol. Unlike many famed footballers, cristiano ronaldo is probably the only person who is not overrated. he is truly great. He will continue to change the game, and thoughts of greats for his entire career. Now, whether he is “betraying” man. united, ( and i am also a true fan of man. u) if it is what he wants, who are we to criticise?
If the red devils bench ronaldo, or refuse his trades, ronaldo will no longer perform as he has done. I think we let him move on to become greater, and those of us who are true ronaldo fans will be happy wherever he goes, for, wouldnt we be happier in a real madrid jersey, than seeing him on a red devil bench?! I am a true fan, and will support him no matter what.
Hey Alex,
Very well said, and that is the point that we’ve been making all along. Ronny is a individual with dreams and ambitions like the rest of us. His decisions may not always be the right ones, but as long as he is following his dreams then his decisions are right for him.
We can only hope that he stays with Manchester, he’s got so much to do here…. It would be a very sad day if he leaves…
