We Are The Champions
This season has been a great one, not only for Manchester United and their fans, but also for Cristiano Ronaldo who put away his 31st league goal yesterday versus Wigan Athletic on a penalty kick. Manchester went on to win that game 2-0, clinching their second Premiership title in as many years.
The cool Ronaldo put the ball into the back of the net as United fans everywhere waited in anticipation for yet another goal by the young Portugal International.
After the goal was scored, United fans who had made the trek to Wigan erupted in celebration. Chanting “Viva Ronaldo”.
“The pressure was high, but we believed in ourselves and we deserved to win the title, definitely,” he said.
“I was confident because I felt that if I scored we would win the match. I am very happy to help my team.”
Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored an amazing 31 league goals in 34 league games played this season for the Red Devils, said after the game that it was a team effort and every player deserves praise for their work this year.
“This was a team effort and I think we deserved it because we are the best team in the Premier League.”
Cristiano Ronaldo added more awards to his continuing collection. Just hours after United’s victory versus Wigan, Manchester United handed out the team’s individual awards for the season at their victory party.
Cristiano Ronaldo retained the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and The Players’ Player of the Year award. He also added the Goal Of The Season Award for his thrilling free kick versus Portsmouth and his backheel goal versus Aston Villa was runner-up.
