Manchester United Retain EPL Title : Game Summary

manwigWigan Athletic started the game aggressively in front of an electric home crowd.

13 minutes in, Paul Scholes receives a yellow card. Six minutes later, Scholes has the first real opportunity to strike for United, but his hard shot is wide of the goal.

20 minutes in, a scary moment for the Red Devils after a long throw in by Wigan is headed inside the United box. The header is just tipped away by an alert Van Der Sar. Three minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo runs down a ball at the Wigan end and passes the ball back in front of the Wigan goal. His pass is intercepted by Wigan defenders.

25 Minute mark, C. Ronaldo takes a free kick after J.S.Park gets fouled. The free kick is on target, but the goaltender makes the save. Three minutes later, C. Ronaldo receives a beautiful pass from Wes Brown; He crosses the ball into the Wigan box, but Tevez fails to connect with the pass.

31 minutes in, United are awarded a penalty after Wayne Rooney is fouled inside the Wigan box. Ronaldo’s penalty kick goes in for his 31st league goal of the season.

35 minute mark, Paul Scholes comes close to receiving his second yellow card of the game, but gets away with a warning. One minute later, Bent strikes a hard shot into the outside of the United net.

42′ Tevez makes a great pass into the Wigan box, but is just out of Wayne Rooney’s reach.

48′ United are a awarded a freekick. Cristiano Ronaldo strikes a hard shot on target, but the goaltender makes a great save.

52′ Paul Scholes is clearly fouled inside the Wigan box, but the referee fails to award Manchester United with a penalty.

55′ Rooney makes a brilliant cut into the midfield and takes a hard shot which is tipped wide of the net by a diving Wigan goaltender.

57′ Rooney receives yellow card for arguing a non call.

66′ Owen Hargreaves comes into the game, replacing Paul Scholes. One minute later, Ryan Giggs replaces J.S. Park.

68′ Heskey sends a hard header just over the United net.

76′ Valencia gets yellow carded after jumping knee first onto Vidic’s back.

79′ Ryan Giggs is the recipient of a brilliant pass from Rooney. He scores to put United in front by two.

The game would end with a brave fight from the Wigan side. Their efforts were fruitless however, and the game ends in victory for Manchester United who retain their EPL title.
